Experience Fragments

An Experience Fragment (ExFr) is component that can be used across multiple pages or websites.
They can be placed on a page in various ways.

It is important that you only use this component when it's appropriate. When not used properly, managing the content in AEM can become confusing and very tedious.

Correct use-cases are:

• Using a single ExFr on multiple pages.
  Eg: use 1 ExFr on 10 pages. This way, you'll only have to maintain/update one ExFr, and when you publish your changes on the the ExFr, they will be visible on all AEM pages.
  
• Using an ExFr on the Homepage of Tijd/Echo, to quickly add or remove the parts.
  

• Creating a different ExFr for each page.
  Eg: creating 3 different ExFr to display on 3 different pages. In this case, you don't need an ExFr and you're making it very hard for yourself and your fellow Editors.
  

An ExFr can be placed in two places in an AEM page:

1. In the main parsys.
   Attention: Your ExFr has to use a column control to layout the components.
   
2. In a column control.
   Attention: Do not use a column control in your ExFr, otherwise you'll have a columncontrol inside a columncontrol ! That's just too much columns. It's a bit like having too many eggs in a cake: it would make it a sweet omelette.

Of course, you'ld have to create an ExFr first:

• On the homescreen of AEM, go to "Experience Fragments"
• Select the folder that's appropriate for you or create a new one.
  
• Inside the correct folder, create a new ExFr.
  Be sure to use the correct template for your site: Netto, L'echo, ...
  
• Edit the ExFr like youl'd edit a page. Be sure to take the columncontrols into account : do not put one into an ExFr if you're going to place it in a column control.
  
• Publish the ExFr.

An Exp-Fr can be placed in the main parsys.

Note the restriction of an ExFr: the following example has 2 feed assets. The left one is not defined in the ExFr and cannot use the feed of this page like it would do for a regular row.
Also note: an ExFr does not know the page it's on: The article-feed blocks will not take other article-feed blocks into account that are on the same page. This means: when using the same feed, it's possible that you'll see the same article multiple times.

An Exp-Fr can be placed in a column control.
